The Stethoscope
In the article Stethoscope it was a great invention. “The stethoscope is an acoustic medical device for auscultation, or listening to the internal sounds of an animal or human body. It is often used to listen to lung and heart sounds. It is also used to listen to intestines and blood flow in arteries and veins.” Science has never had something like this so when this was invented it made exploring the body easier just as the x-rays did. “The medical historian Jacalyn Duffin has argued that the invention of the stethoscope marked a major step in the redefinition of disease from being a bundle of symptoms, to the current sense of a disease as a problem with an anatomical system even if there are no noticeable symptoms.” Because of this invention not only did it improve science they were able to learn more about the human body and check heart pulse. Today we use the stethoscope for all types of research and without it learning about heartbeat lungs and movements inside your body would be a lot more difficult since it was a major improvement in history.

Small pox cure
Edward Jenner was the first person to find a cure for the deadly disease called smallpox. “Smallpox spreads from one person to another from saliva droplets. It may also be spread from bed sheets and clothing. It is most contagious during the first week of the infection. It may continue to be contagious until the scabs from the rash fall off. The virus can stay alive between 6 and 24 hours.” Smallpox was a disease that was affecting lots of people during the industrial revolution but once a cure was found many lives were saved. “The smallpox vaccine may prevent illness or lessen symptoms if it is given within 1 to 4 days after a person is exposed to the disease. Once symptoms have started, treatment is limited. Many people were vaccinated against smallpox in the past.” When a cure was found for smallpox it was the end for this disease. After that the disease has stopped affecting people. “There is no specific drug for treating smallpox. Antibiotics may be given for infections that occur in people who have smallpox. Taking antibodies against a disease similar to smallpox (vaccinia immune globulin) may help shorten the duration of the disease.
People who have been diagnosed with smallpox and people they have been in close contact with need to be isolated right away. They will need to receive the vaccine and be watched closely” Scientist who study on finding cures for diseases were able to learn from this and with the information on finding a cure for a diseases medicine was able to advance. Today close to no one is affected by this disease and it is under control.
